The Copperbelt Province consists of the mineral-rich areas, farming and bush areas to the south. The province shares borders with the Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which also has great mineral wealth. During the British colonial rule Copperbelt Province was the stronghold of the Northern Rhodesian economy and fuelled the hopes of the immediate post-independence period. However, this economic power did not last long as it was damaged by a crash in global copper prices in the early 1970s and the nationalization of the copper mines by the government of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda did not help the situation.

The main cities of the Copperbelt Province are Kitwe, Ndola, Mufulira, Luanshya, Chingola and Chililabombwe. Roads and rail links extend north into the Congo to Lubumbashi, but the Second Congo War caused economic contact between the two countries to come to its knees but of course it is now recovering.

As far as tourism is concerned, there are no national parks in the province as it is mostly urban and industrial. But that is not say there are no tourism activities taking place in the area. The Copperbelt Province is home to Chembe Bird Sanctuary which is based in the west of Kitwe and the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage which was established as a measure to rescue captive non-indigenous chimpanzees.
